Who Is Robert Frost?

Robert Frost’s full name is Robert Lee Frost. He was an American poet and playwright. He was primarily writing about the reality of rural life and is known for writing American lectures. He is the only poet to receive 4 Pulitzer Prizes for poetry.

He was born in 1874 in United States’ 16th Most Poplar City San Francisco. His father William Prescott Frost was a journalist. And his mother’s name was Isabelle Moodie.

Frost’s father was previously a teacher and later worked as a journalist. His father died on May 5, 1885. he and his family later settled with his grandfather in Lawrence, Massachusetts.

He started to study at Lawrence High School in 1892. Frost loved writing poetry. So he published his first poetry in a high school magazine.

After completing the study, he did many things like distributing newspapers and working in arc lamp-making factories. But Robert did not like this work at all. He had more credibility to write his poem.

In 1894 he wrote his poem “My Butterfly. An Elegy” which sold for 15 dollars at the time compared with today’s dollar price is about 443 dollars. Frost then married a girl named Elinor Miriam White on December 19, 1895.

Frost’s grandfather bought a farm for Robert and Elinor. After his grandfather died, Robert got the farm. In which he worked for 9 years. And along with that, he continues to write many poems. Later, as his farming failed, he worked as an English teacher at Pinkerton Academy in New Hampshire.

In 1912, Frost settled with his family in Beaconsfield, Great Britain. That next year he published his book “A Boys Will” at the age of 40.

In 1914, he published four more poems, “Mending Wall”, “The Death of the Hired Man”, “Home Burial” and “After Apple-Picking”. After that, Frost’s fan following grow very rapidly in London and America.

In 1915, World War I caused Frost to return to the United States. After this, he started writing many poems. He was an American poet who started a career with such a delay and quickly gained fame.

Frost bought a small farm in Franconia, New Hampshire, in 1915. but could not do much work. So from 1916, he started attending Amherst College and the University of Michigan.

Frost then continued to write his poems as well. He wrote a number of poems and books from 1916 to 1962 such as Mountain Interval (1916), New Hampshire (1923), West-Running Brook (1928), Frost’s Collected Poems (1930), A Witness Tree (1942), Steeple Bush (1947), and In the Clearing (1962).

During his last time, he received many honors and awards. The most memorable moment of his life was when he got a chance to sing his “The Gift Outright” poem in 1961 at the function of President John F. Kennedy. This was the most memorable moment for him.

Robert Frost’s life was full of pains and sorrows. First of all, his father would die when he was 11 years old. And in 1900 his mother died of cancer.

In 1920, his younger sister Jeanie developed a mental illness and died after nine years in hospital. In 1947, his daughter Irma also suffered from mental illness, but she recovered later. Robert Frost had six children, but only Leslie and Irma were able to live.

Frost’s wife Elinor had heart problems throughout her life and died in 1938 from Heart Attack. In this way, Frost had to endure a lot of suffering and sorrow in his life.

He was awarded the Congress Gold Medal in 1960. On July 22, 1961, he has also been awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature 31 times.

Robert Frost had prostate surgery which was quite complicated. After that, his health started deteriorating and he died of a heart attack in Boston on January 29, 1963. And was buried at Old Bennington Cemetery in Bennington, Vermont.
