Steve Irwin was an Australian zookeeper, television personality, wildlife expert and environmentalist.
His full name is Stephen Robert Irwin. He is also known as “The Crocodile Hunter”.
Irwin was born on 22 February 1962 in Upper Ferntree Gully, a suburb of Australia. Irwin’s father Bob Irwin was a wildlife expert and his mother Lyn Irwin was a wildlife rehabilitator.
In 1970 he moved with his family to Queensland. There, Irvin’s parents started small Queensland Reptile and Fauna Park.

Because of this, Steve’s childhood was spent with crocodiles and other reptiles. He helped his parents in many ways, such as feeding and caring for animals.
In Queensland, he completed his studies at Landsborough State School and Caloundra State High School.
When Steve was 6 years old, his parents gave him a 12-foot scrub python for his birthday.
His father taught him about reptiles from a very young age. So Steve could handle crocodiles at the only age of 9.
When he grew up, he worked as a volunteer under Queensland’s East Coast Crocodile Management Program and caught 100 crocodiles.

From 1991, Irvin took over the management of the park. And in 1998, he renamed the park from Reptile and Fauna Park to “Australia Zoo”.
Between 1996 and 2007, He also worked in a number of television series such as The Crocodile Hunter, Croc Files, The Crocodile Hunter Diaries, and New Breed Vets.
Out of this, he gained worldwide fame with The Crocodile Hunter.
Steve Irwin also worked as a promoter of Australian tourism. In 2002 Australia Zoo was voted as Queensland’s top tourist attraction under the supervision of Steve.
He has also received many awards in 2004 such as Tourism Export of the Year, Australian of the Year and Queensland Australian of the Year.

In 2004, he served as ambassador of the Australian experiential tourism passenger train “The Ghan”
Steve Irvin has always promoted nature and tourism. For this, he also did many media campaigns with the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service.
And in January 2006, he has last appeared at the University of California’s “Australia Week” celebrations.
A few months later, on 4 September 2006, he had an accident while shooting at Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.
While he was swimming in the water, a fish named stingray barb pierced his chest. And he died from it. The whole world got quite shocked by his sudden death. It had become international news.
After his death, many parks, zoos, streets, and an asteroid were named in his memory and honor. The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society named one of its patrol ships, MY Steve Irwin.
