Who Is Salman Rushdie ?

Salman Rushdie’s full name is Ahmed Salman Rushdie. He was born on 19 June 1947 in Mumbai, India to a Kashmiri Muslim family.

His father’s name is Anis Ahmed Rushdie who was a Cambridge educated lawyer and later started his business. And his mother’s name is Negin Bhatt who was a teacher.

Salman Rushdie Education :

Salman Rushdie completed his primary study at Cathedral and John Connon School, Bombay, and later received his degree M.A. in History from Rugby School and the University of Cambridge.

Salman Rushdie Career :

After practice, he worked as a copywriter at the advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather in London. And also worked for American Express. But he wanted to become a writer.

His first official novel was published in 1975 which was ‘Grimmus’. His second novel ‘Midnight’s Children’ was published in 1981, which contained a fable about modern India. The novel was well received and earned him international recognition.

He wrote the novel ‘Shem’ in 1983 which was based on the contemporary politics of Pakistan. His fourth novel put his life in danger which was ‘The Satanic Verses’. In which he depicted a character based on Prophet Muhammad.

Muslim leaders had also surfaced against him in Britain. The protest against them also spread in Pakistan and Iran. And the spiritual leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ruhullah Khomeini, issued a reward against him. So they hide in Scotland.

Despite his death threat, Rushdie continued writing. And wrote a number of Surrey novels such as Imaginary Homelands (1991), Children’s novels Aaron and the Sea of Stories (1990), Short story East, West (1994) and the novel The Moor Last Sigh (1995).

In 1998, the Iranian government withdrew the declaration against Rushdie. After that, he started living a normal life. After that, he continued writing novels in which he published The Ground Beneath Her Feet (1999) and Fury (2001).
