About Rabindranath Tagore:

Rabindranath Tagore was a poet, writer, composer, painter and philosopher. He was born on 7 May 1861 in Kolkata city, India. His real name is Rabindranath Thakur.

But if we look at the history of his family, his original surname is Kushari.

Tagore originally belonged to a village called Kush in a district called Burdwan in West Bengal. He was a Rarhi (Bengali) Brahmin.

Tagore’s father’s name was Debendranath Tagore and his mother’s name was Sarada Devi. But his mother died at a very young age.

Tagore did not like to study as a child. He mostly avoided classroom education. He loved to roam.

So his elder brother Hemendranath got him to do tracking, gymnastics, judo and wrestling exercises to make him physically strong.

Along with this, he also studied drawing, anatomy, geography, history, literature, mathematics, Sanskrit and English. However, Tagore never took formal education.

For the Renaissance of Bengal, he published paintings, sketches, doodles, hundreds of texts and two thousand songs. He modernized Bengali art.

His two compositions “Jana Gana Mana” and “Amar Shonar Bangla” have been made his national anthem by two nations (India and Bangladesh). And the national anthem of Sri Lanka is also inspired by his work.
