
Marian Anderson a well-known vocal singer of the 20th century in the United States.
She also played an important role in resolving racial prejudice in the United States in the mid-twentieth century.
In addition, she was the first African American to receive the Medal of Honor.
Marian Anderson was born on February 27, 1897 in Largest City Philadelphia, United States.

Her father’s name was John Berkley Anderson, who used to sell ice and coal. And her mother’s name was Annie Delilah Rucker.
Marian’s parents were devout Christians and attended the Union Baptist Church. When Anderson was 6, she started singing from this church. From there she got the nickname Baby Contralto.
After this, Anderson’s aunt started taking him to local functions. There Anderson received 25 or 50 cents for singing.
When she turned 10, she got an opportunity to train with singer Emma Azalia Hackley. She emerged as a soloist after training.
Then in 1925, Anderson got a chance to participate in a competition organized by the New York Philharmonic.

After this competition, her career was on the pick from the 1930s to 1940s.
During this time, Anderson gave performances in the world’s most famous opera houses like the Metropolitan Opera and the Paris Opera House Constitution Hall.
Apart from this, Marian Anderson also served as a delegate to the United Nations Human Rights Committee and Goodwill Ambassador of the United States.

Anderson has received several important awards such as the first Presidential Medal of Freedom, Congressional Gold Medal, Kennedy Center Honors, Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and National Medal of Arts.
Anderson retired from singing in 1965. After retirement, she moved with her husband Orpheus Fisher to a farmhouse near Danbury. Although she used to attend many public functions as well.
After spending the rest of her life in peace, she died of heart failure on April 8, 1993, at the age of 96.
