Who Is Dr. Seuss?
Dr. Seuss’s full name is Theodor Seuss Geisel. But he is mostly known as “Dr. Seuss”. Seuss was an American children’s writer, political cartoonist, illustrator, poet, animator, and filmmaker.
His books have been translated into more than 20 languages to date. He is called Dr. Seuss got his nickname during his graduation at Dartmouth College.
About Dr. Seuss’s Life :
Dr. Seuss was born on March 2, 1904, in the U.S. Took place in the city of Springfield. His father’s name was Theodor Robert Geisel who ran a brewery. And his mother’s name was Henrietta Seuss Geisel.
Seuss graduated from Dartmouth College in 1925. He then joined the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and went on to serve as editor-in-chief at the comic magazine Dartmouth Jack-O-Lantern.

Along with his work, he went to Lincoln College, Oxford for a D.Phil degree. Where he got the inspiration to make drawing and English as his career.
Seuss left Oxford for his career. He then worked as a cartoonist for publications such as Vanity Fair and Life. During this time, he also started working as an illustrator and political cartoonist for advertisements.
He got the idea to write a children’s book in 1937. And he published his first children’s book “Think to That I Saw It” in Mulberry Street. He started working in the animation and film department during World War II.
He then wrote several productions. In all, he received the Academy Award in 1947 for the Best Documentary Feature of Design for Death. When the Second World War came to an end, he focused his entire attention on writing children’s books.
And he published more than 60 books during his career. Out of all these books, 11 television specials, five feature films, four television series and one Broadway musical have been produced to date.
Seuss has received numerous awards such as Academy Award, Emmy Award, Peabody Award and Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal. Today Seuss’s birthday is celebrated on 2 March in the US as the annual date for National Read Across America Day.
How Did Dr. Seuss Die?
Dr. Seuss had been suffering from oral cancer for a long time. And on 24 September 1991, he died at the age of 87 due to cancer at his home in La Jolla, California. His ashes were scattered in the Pacific Ocean. The library of the University of San Diego was renamed the Geisel Library in his memory.
