One such opportunity was given to Earl Simmons, who was known by the stage name DMX which means “Dark Man X”. He is an American rapper and actor who started his rapping career in the 1990s.
Earl Simmons was born in Mount Vernon City, USA. His parents were very young at the time of his birth. His father Arnett Simmons did not contribute much to DMX’s life. His mother Joe Barker raised him single-handedly.
Earl Simmons had bronchial asthma since childhood, which caused him a lot of trouble. DMX was caught in a bad company from a very young age, due to which he became a part of many crimes by the age of 14. Disturbed by this, his mother sent him to a Children’s Home, but it did not bring any change in him.
But when his mother sent him to the group home, he was meet with other students who used to compose hip hop music. At this moment, nature gave Simmons a second chance. He liked hip-hop music and started writing songs.
When Simmons returned home, he met local rapper Ready Ron in the area, and the two began rapping together in partnership. That’s when Simmons named himself DMX.
In 1998, DMX released his debut album “It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot”, making him an overnight success. In just one week, 251,000 copies of his album were sold.
After this, many of his albums were quite successful such as Stop Being Greedy, Get It On The Floor, What’s My Name?, Party Up (Up In Here), Slippin and X Gon Give It To Ya.
DMX is the first artist to be named on the Billboard 200 charts at No. 1 five times in a row. Apart from music, DMX has also contributed well to the acting industry. He has acted in 5 films and one television series. In 2003, DMX also published its Autobiography book E.A.R.L.
DMX was addicted to crack cocaine from the age of 14 as well smoked marijuana cigarettes. Due to this, he had bipolar disorder.
This drug addiction also became the cause of his death. On April 2, 2021, DMX suffered a cocaine-induced heart attack from a drug overdose and was admitted to White Plains Hospital. But no treatment worked and he died at the age of 50.
DMX was one such rapper who achieved great success in a very short time. He was very honest and emotional towards the fans.
